If you are looking to carry out work to older trees and property a simple bat presence survey may be very wise. Treecare works jointly with the Gwent Bat Group and Thorteck in order to give an informed response when required.

Any woodlands and large trees may have significant potential habitats for bats that do require special attention and skills most tree contractors and builders do not have.

The 17 species of bats in the UK are heavily protected by law and as a result imprisonment can be the punishment. To kill, injure, take or disturb bats is an offence also removing or blocking a roost occupied or not is an offence. Even dead bats or parts of bats are afforded these protections so always look before you leap.

If your project involves SSSI’s, SACS or environmentally sensitive areas then please let us advise you on how to approach the project in a thoughtful manner. It is very easy to ruin a habitat if you are unable to detect the presence of protected species.

Our ecologists will be able to advise on the correct approach and if need be suitable mitigation and method statements for the work.

We are also happy to provide on site services to people undertaking the erection of Bat Boxes or other types of nesting and roost work. We can do this with our professional tree climbers or our low ground pressure tracked access equipment (see MEWPS).

If you feel you may have already disturbed a species that is protected and need help to try and resolve the matter then please call as we are here to help you and the environment.

Please contact us and we will respond accordingly.
